Sandy Storm Kills 13 People in the U.S.

Thirteen people were killed in the attack 'super storm' Sandy on the U.S. east coast. Sandy brought winds with hurricane force, and resulted in severe flooding and crippling electricity and other facilities.

Sandy also resulted in the overflow of sea water to New York City, soaking subway lines and tunnels and making the Lower Manhattan like a ghost town.

"Lower Manhattan submerged in sea water," said Howard Glaser, director of the New York operations. "I do not exaggerate. Seawater invaded Battery Tunnel."

Sandy, who is now categorized as a post-tropical cyclone, passing the New Jersey coast at 20:00 local time (06:00 GMT), with winds of 129 km per hour.

About 60 million people feeling the effects of this storm, hundreds of thousands of people have been ordered to leave their homes. More than one million people currently do not have electricity in their homes. Transportation stopped in the eastern coastal towns and thousands of flights were canceled.

The storm has killed dozens of people in the Caribbean.

Falling tree kills citizens of NY

In the U.S., a storm is threatening the coastal area of 1290 km from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes in the Mid-West. Sandy derived from a hurricane category storms Monday night as the storm approached the coast and collided with a winter weather system.

Hurricane Sandy landed near Atlantic City New Jersey. Most of the city under water and 30,000 residents have been evacuated.

In New York, 375,000 people were ordered to leave low areas in Manhattan and elsewhere, because of the Hudson River and the East River began to overflow. One man in Queens, New York, died of a fallen tree fall on his house, firefighters said. Currently 250,000 people in Manhattan to survive without electricity.

Trading on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq halted for a second day. UN headquarters in New York also closed.

President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney canceled a campaign less than a week before the presidential election.

In Washington DC, federal offices closed until Wednesday. Public transportation was stopped in the U.S. capital, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Boston. Amtrak train stop along the northeast, and 14,000 flights were canceled, according to data from Flightaware.com

Weather agencies said Sandy can survive in 12 states within 24-36 hours. Meanwhile 91cm of snow is expected to fall in the Applachian mountains in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky.
